First, socks.  I just finished my first proper sock.  Now I have to knit a second one that exactly matches???  I’m learning something, though.  And it’s amazing that I haven’t learned this already, since I’ve knitting for a couple of years now.  I need to keep a journal of what I do when I knit.  [...]

My first sock of my first pair of socks is moving right along.  I finished the heel flap, turned the heel, and worked the gussets tonight, and am now working on the foot.  It’s pooling, but I think I rather like the effect.
I do, however, think that the next pair I do will be an [...]

Ok, so admittedly, it’s been a bit of a rough week.
Wednesday night, I sprained my heel (not my ankle, but my HEEL, as in the bottom part of my foot???) whilst playing volleyball and have been hobbling around on crutches ever since.  But I’m at least able to put a bit of weight on it [...]

Ok, so I’m taking another go at socks.  This time, I’m using proper fingering weight sock yarn, hand-dyed by dkKnits.  It felt a little rough in the skein, but it’s softening up in the knit, and I’m guessing it will soften up more after the first wash.
I’m using US2 dpns, and I’m using the basic [...]

Why do they tease me?
I imagine carrying little socks with me everywhere I go, knitting them up.  Keeping my feet warm.
So I’ve started a “starter” pair of socks.  DK yarn  Not crazy about the yarn, so I don’t have a lot invested in it.  The pattern is simplistic at best, and it looks odd since [...]

Stop, Thief!

Ok, so M and I live safely planted in the ‘burbs.  There’s no doubt about it.  It has its advantages and disadvantages.
Disadvantages:  Our neighbors know what we’re up to all the time, especially since it’s currently filled with older citizens.  They know that I came home an hour later from work last Tuesday.  They know [...]

Don’t laugh.  Don’t cringe.   Don’t roll your eyes.
I think I’m changing my dissertation topic and research interests.  I mean, if I’m going to write this thing, I should at least do it on something that I really love — me, the person I am now, not the person I was 5 years ago.
Here’s the thing.  [...]

Meanderings.

First, let me say that Weight Watchers really is instilling in me the desire to make better food choices.  I’d LIKE to sit down with a bottle of wine while grading final papers.  But I won’t.  I’ll have diet cherry coke instead, which I also like.  I’d LIKE to have a donut or chocolate chip [...]

Cell Phone Etiquette Rant

Ok, I’m totally going to rant now, so if you despise bloggy, self-indulgent, soap-boxy rants, please skip ahead for this evening’s postings about my first full-fledged sweater or my latest yarn indulgences.
I’m sitting here in my office, grading some papers.  I have the door closed for privacy (I’m also working on my Mass Comm final [...]
